The Southwest Florida Kayak Anglers Association’s annual fishing tournament will be held May 2nd and 3rd at Fish Tale Marina in Fort Myers. Now, in its third year, the tournament that had a humble start has now grown into an event showcasing the entire spectrum of kayak fishermen from newbies to season veterans. President of SWFKAA Jeff Gabrick and former president Bob Bramblet have teamed up to present a unique 24 hour format to the tournament. “We have such a large population of kayakers in the Southwest Florida area, and this event is tailored just for them”, Jeff explained. Fishing will begin Friday at 7pm and final weigh-in will begin at 12pm on Saturday and be closed at 3pm. This gives each angler a unique opportunity to fish with the bait of their choice for Snook, Redfish, Trout, and Tarpon with plenty of time to catch two of each species. Bob Bramblet said, “This is already a world class event with competitive anglers from all over the country, and now we offer cash prizes and longer fishing times”.  On Saturday morning at 7am there will also be a Heros on the Water event hosted by Esteban Gutierrez for our Veterans. HOW will also receive the proceeds from the tournament. This year, Jeff and Bob have added another level to the tournament by holding a kayak fishing festival, which will start at 10am. The festival will have new kayak fishing product, food, and live music to go along with Derick Burgos’s fishing seminar and the Raffle/Auction. At 6pm, after the tournament and seminars are wrapped up, Fish Tale Marina will host the Reel Paddling Film Festival showcasing some of our sports best video productions including Rob DeVore, Jim Van Pelt, and Bob Bramblet’s “Bass On the Road”. Proceeds for that will go to the Josh Stuller Medical Fund. At 9pm there will be a VIP cocktail party for event attendees with great outdoor writers, photographers, and film makers including Salty Shores creator Sam Root, Yaktastic Adventures filmmaker Rob DeVore, as well as Jackson Kayak Team members Esteban Gutierrez and Derick Burgos. This event will be a really good way to make connections with all levels of the kayak fishing industry and give people an opportunity to see what it’s all about.
